David Lockington takes the stage for his conducting debut as one of our new artistic partners! The program features Gabriela Martínez playing Mozart’s Piano Concert No. 20, as well as thrilling chamber orchestra performances of Copland’s Music for Theater and Beethoven’s playful Symphony No. 8. David Lockington, Artistic Partner
Over the past thirty-five years, David Lockington has developed an impressive conducting career in the United States. A native of Great Britain, he served as the Music Director of the Grand Rapids Symphony from January 1999 to May 2015, and is currently the orchestra’s Conductor Laureate. He has held the position of Music Director with the Modesto Symphony since May 2007 and in March 2013, Mr. Lockington was appointed to the same position with the Pasadena Symphony. He also has a close relationship with the Orquesta Sinfonica del Principado de Asturias in Spain where he is currently the orchestra’s Principal Guest Conductor, and beginning with the 15/16 season he will be one of three Artistic Partners with the Northwest Sinfonietta in Tacoma, Washington.

Versatile, daring and insightful, young Venezuelan pianist Gabriela Martinez is establishing a reputation on both the national and international stages for the lyricism of her playing, her compelling interpretations, and her elegant stage presence. An artist equally at home with both established and contemporary repertoire, by composers ranging from Beethoven and Rachmaninoff to Mason Bates and Adam Schoenberg, she has performed throughout the United States as well as in Austria, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Switzerland, and Venezuela.
